Regenerative Therapy

Regenerative Therapy

Advances in periodontal treatment now allow us to regenerate lost bone and tissue, not just repair it. Regenerative therapy is used to restore areas affected by gum disease or trauma and help rebuild the natural support structures around the teeth.

This process often involves placing a bone graft in the area where bone has been lost, along with a specialized membrane to protect the site. This technique, known as Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR), helps encourage the body to regenerate healthy bone by preventing other types of tissue from interfering with the healing process.

In some cases, bioactive materials may also be used to stimulate natural bone growth. One commonly used option is Emdogain, which supports the body’s regenerative process. As technology continues to advance, additional materials are being developed to further enhance treatment outcomes.

After regenerative therapy, maintaining excellent oral hygiene and attending regular maintenance visits is essential for long-term success. To allow proper healing, the treated areas should not be probed or deeply cleaned beneath the gums for approximately one year.

During this healing period, Dr. Du may recommend that your maintenance cleanings be performed in our office to ensure the area is properly monitored and protected.
